Quantitative in vivo assessment of human mitral valve coaptation area after undersized ring annuloplasty repair for ischemic mitral regurgitation

Adult Legend: A noninvasive simulation-based method was used to quantify the coaptation zone area from rt-3DE images. Results demonstrated that postsurgical coaptation zone area was greater in patients with recurrent IMR at 6 months compared with patients without recurrence (P < .05). The contacting region area (where the 2 leaflets are in direct contact) was also greater in patients with recurrence, even when normalized to total systolic leaflet area to account for generally larger recurrent MVs. Simonian
